Perth Glory are close to securing a pre-season friendly against top-flight Spanish side Malaga, to be played at nib Stadium on July 27.
An official announcement is expected next week after contract details are finalised with venue management.
The fixture would fall in the build-up to Glory's first FFA Cup match, with the knockout competition's round of 32 to begin on July 29.
Malaga reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League under the guidance of current Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini in 2012-13 and finished 11th in La Liga last season.
Los Boquerones - 'The Anchovies' - are also set to meet Adelaide United on their Australian tour, which has been organized through the Reds' strong Spanish connections.
Glory had been in talks with Espanyol about a friendly fixture before turning their attention to Malaga.
Glory chief executive Jason Brewer said the main focus of the proposed fixture against the high-profile Spanish side was on preparing the team for the A-League season, rather than on the club turning a profit.
Brewer said ticket prices would be affordable for fans and expected a crowd of more than 10,000 at the match, which would likely kick off in the late afternoon.
"It's something completely different for the Perth football community," Brewer said.
"Glory's brought out British teams in the past and I think there's been a cry for that Mediterranean style of football.
"It's good quality football and in pre-season for us it's difficult to find good quality opposition, so to have a team like this here in Australia to play is fantastic.
"You don't get a better chance than this to test yourself against some good European players.
"It should be very attractive for any football person in Perth to go to."
Glory's pre-season schedule will also include a short tour of Malaysia next month and several matches against A-League and NPLWA opposition.
